Jack

Well Moriarty's bar, was a haven for the sad
Men would come for miles, to forget the troubles that they had
When the wind would blow, cold and strong from the west
A man would wander in, much sadder than the rest

His name was Jack Smith, and a word he'd never say
Just sat at his table and drank his blues away
He fought in the war, at 18 years old
The Germans and the death put a stain upon his soul
Ain't got any kin, and he never had a wife
Just been cursin the world and driftin through life
The Camels and the drink, ride hard on his breath
His only two companions with him till death

Oh the liquor numbs his old sad heart
Married to the bottle, till death do them part
Oh Jack, come back, to the land of the living

The weight of the world, is heavy on his mind
Yeah he'd kill himself, just hadn't found the time
But one lonely day, no longer he could stall
Grabbed a handful of pills and went to end it all
He walked to his room, and layed on his back
Swallowed them all, and washed it down with Jack
The memories and the screams, haunted him no more
And he smiled for the first time, since 1944

Oh the liquor numbs his old sad heart
Married to the bottle, till death do them part
Oh Jack, come back, to the land of the living
Oh Jack, come back, to the land of the living
