Dirty Pots

After silent years down in my basement,
I wouldn't worry much 'bout the placement
Of the microphone.
Just point it at the speaker cone.
This is what I got-
An amp with dirty pots.

Rock and Roll just don't let you fake it.
Even though it's hard not to take it
As a metaphor,
That's not what I've been going for.
It's simpler than you thought-
My amp's got dirty pots.

Although you're thinking
One way or the other
I'm going on about some wounded lover
Took my heart away,
It's just about some band who plays
With the levels hot
And crackling dirty pots.

I couldn't stop you faking holy orders.
I couldn't fill your juke box
With my quarters
And repeat that song.
You said I'd get the lyrics wrong
More often than not.
I felt like I'd been shot.

I'm not ashamed to say that I respect you
For walking out
But you can't expect to
Waltz back in again.
You wouldn't do that to a friend.
Leave me what I got-
Just these dirty pots.
