Cement Shoes

Dried earthworms on the sidewalk
Spell out an SOS
Got a bad habit of mistaking
Strangers for old friends
This is
The next step in evolution
We lose our hearts
Become allergic to the sun

Too early to tell but too late
To make any difference
Acting like the boss when you ain't got a job
Sure takes some initiative
Our heads have grown
Too big for our bodies now
We rip our moms in half
And never say sorry

Here
We're drifting further from perfect
By God
But since
I've got it out of my system
I can't help but miss it
The way the stillness
Still makes time move
In a flesh shell
We're turning pearls back to dirt now
Relieving the burden of ourselves

Cannonball into an open grave
For pure amusement
(Dressed in cement shoes)
Read the dystopias less as warnings
Than future blueprints
(Stunning cement shoes)

Well make sure
To leave the TV and lights on
(Stoves off, doors are locked)
So our pets feel less
Lonely when we're all gone

Here
We're drifting further from perfect
By God
But since
I've got it out of my system
I can't help but miss it
The way the stillness
Still makes time move
In this fresh hell
We'll find our footing here
In cement shoes
