In the city of Madison, where there is love
Where no entrance is gated shut
And the golden rust on iron barred windows is complimentary
To those aging bodies that roam around it
And fear, like the little crumbs on your plate
Finds a purpose amongst the sewer rats

Yes, here in the city of Madison
Where every stranger begs for money
Like the needy son you never had
And every warm smile off the television
Has met their natural conclusion and
Withered and died
In very horrible ways

But here, in the city of Madison
Where death only comes upon invitation
And delusion has become a currency
Where all arguments are forbidden
Replaced by the abrupt phrase
"agree to disagree", shouted like daggers
Launching from the throat
And clouds, troublesome as they are
Are shot out of the sky
For their incessant crimes of darkening days
Here, in the city of Madison
Where there is love
But not for everyone
