Christmas Is Real

Everyone is holidaying
Feels like I'm the only one saying
That all this cheer has no meaning
And, for folks like me that are grieving
For us, this time of year brings deep despair
And it's all to hard to pretend to care
Maybe you have lost someone who's dear
Or stressed cause the future's not so clear and full of fear
It's not a night full of lights and holly
Or meals so rich, drinks to make you jolly
There's no children waiting, full of awe
My Christmas is real, it's dark and it's raw
There's no morning filled with songs and laughter
Or too many gifts that don't matter
I don't know about you but my Christmas, my Christmas is real
Rewind to a night long ago
To a weary man looking for shelter
Such worry and despair for his wife
She carried a child, not his own
Nowhere to rest, nowhere fit for a birth
Except a dirty, smelly old barn with a manger
And after his little boy was born
He prayed for his family, oh so near and so dear
It's wasn't a night full of lights and holly
Or meals so rich, drinks to make you jolly
Just three wise men amazed and full of awe
At a Christmas so real, so dark and so raw
It wasn't a night filled with songs and laughter
Just three perfect gifts that really mattered
I don't know about you, but this Christmas, this Christmas was real

Maybe you have lost someone who's dear
Or stressed cause the future's not so clear and full of fear
(but remember)
It wasn't a night full of lights and holly
Or meals so rich, drinks to make you jolly
Just three wise men amazed and full of awe
At a Christmas so real, so dark and so raw
It wasn't a night filled with songs and laughter
Just three perfect gifts that really mattered
I don't know about you, but this Christmas, this Christmas was real
And my Christmas, my Christmas is real
