This House

They're building a house
On the corner of the street
Three stories high
With the windows always glistening

I think my mom and dad
Always wanted a place like that

But this house we live in
With the popcorn ceilings
And the kitchen stove from 1981
If it ain't broke don't fix it
What's a home if not lived in?
These floors hold stories money just can't touch
Is that enough?

I can recall the April
That I turned 13
Pink was the party
Backyard swingset with the evergreen

Since then they cut her down
And they built a fence around

But this house we live in
With the popcorn ceilings
And the kitchen stove from 1981
If it ain't broke don't fix it
What's a home if not lived in?
These floors hold stories money just can't touch
Is that enough?

Oh, oh

Someday
I will walk out on this front porch with a
Suitcase
And my ego out of control but
Just wait
I'll come running to the door I've always known
And remember why I call this place my home

This house we live in
With the popcorn ceilings
And the kitchen stove from 1981
If it ain't broke don't fix it
What's a home if not lived in?
These floors hold stories money just can't touch
And that's enough
