Voice of the Tomb

Voice of the tomb
A slender thread
Silent and slow
They fade away

From the tombs do you hear the cry?
Come and view the ground
Where you must shortly die and lie
It is our certain doom
See the vain race of mortals as they move around like shadows
Princes, this clay must be your bed
In spite of all your toils
The eternal state of all the dead

The tall, the wise, the reverent head
Must lie as low as ours
The tall, the wise, the reverent head
Must lie as low as ours

Voice of the tomb
A slender thread
Silent and slow
They fade away

From the tombs - do you hear the cry?
Come and view the ground
Where you must shortly die and lie
It is our certain doom
