Summer '19

Do you remember the summer of twenty nineteen?
It was just you and i and the future as bright as could be

It's hard to believe you were only nineteen
You grew your hair long you grew tall you grew to be free

Slept in til noon for that night still had stories to tell
Deep in your chest i could see you were fighting like hell

Stayed home from church and we drank the whole bottle of gin
Talked just like brothers we let down our guards told our sins

I miss the ocean
The tides and the waves
I miss their voices
And singing high praise
I'll drive to the ocean but i miss those days

That wild fire smoke left us all feeling alone
Just 'cuz you change places doesn't mean that it feels like home

So i hold onto printouts of pictures taken on film
But the places my finger touches won't take me back their still

I miss the ocean
The tides and the waves
I miss their voices and singing high-praise
I miss the late nights, the sound of the rain
I love where we're at now,
But i miss those days

I miss those days

I still remember as winter then made way for spring
Do we fall out of touch or do we just fall into other things?
