Actress

She wanted to be an actress, nothing more
She'd put on mommy's shoes
And pretend audition for somebody's show
Somebody's part, somebody's role, somewhere to go

She wanted to be an actress on the stage
She'd beg her dad for lessons
And when dad said, it's your age, she'd dress the part
She thought the thing she dreamed she'd do, she'd use to start

And I look at her and think, am I letting this girl down
If I let being an actress fall to the wayside now
Not gone entirely, but not entirety
Now I'm more a double agent
I play, I write, I sing and I act too
And I love each little thing that I can do
But is it enough? Is it more? Is it less
When all she wanted was to be an actress
