The Observer

Open sighted
Yearning but guarded

Watch as they walk on by
Wondering how they live
With a look of certainty
Here in this hiding place
My castle of dread
A haven of reticence

I am the observer
Never to engage
Never to connect with them
Isolation is all
I am capable
Of providing them

Feel the same
Could they feel the same as me?
Or would they cast away all the blame?

Never
Could I feel the same as them
It is not who I am, or what I am for

I will never be one others see
I will never belong
Woven into the tapestry
I am the observer

Gazing through the window
Seeing shapes that move throughout the shadows
Watching as they close in on some unsuspecting strangers

Hearing cries now stifled
Silver blade silences silver tongue
Watching, paralyzed
As the pavement is splattered with crimson

Big man hides
Fear through power

This façade goes through the steps
Thinking it will be the inspiration
Of turning emptiness into fulfillment

I can observe
This strange devastation
I hear the cry of pain
Of lonely desperation
So lost

Words, thoughts, no use
No help arrives
I am trembling inside
All that matters
Is hanging in the balance
Is there anybody else?
Or are we alone?
Left to die on our own?
Do I break out?
Through the door to the cries
And finally be more than I was?
I take the step

Feel the same
Could you feel the same as me?
Or would you cast away all the blame?

Ever
Could I feel the same as you?
Could this be who I am, or what I am for?

Could I be one others see?
Could I ever belong?
Weaving into the tapestry
Ever the observer

Could I be one others see?
Could I ever belong?
Coming out from the tapestry
Not just the observer
