Turn Myself

Hey won't you write me a song? Maybe a poem or two?
I just need a little something- something coming from you
So pour out all your feelings just to give them away
To anybody who's receptive the thoughts you convey
Don't have to be too clever- just say what's on your mind
'Cause after all nobody cares about superfluous rhyme
As long as you're true to your perception of you
Even a stranger might be able to feel things like you do

And I turn myself into somebody else
Because I'm feeling like I should've kept these things to myself
I call upon the lessons I was forced to learn
Way too young- I got the message but the book was burned

Now with my heavy head and my bloody hands
I try to put old Humpty Dumpty back together again
And with this wind in my sails the sound of funeral bells
Can take me back into a place I know so well
Now under the lights I dig down deep inside
To try to show you all the places that I wish I could hide

And I turn myself into somebody else
Because I'm feeling like I should've kept these things to myself
I call upon the lessons I was forced to learn
Way too young- I got the message but the book was burned
I've read about prophets that were burned at the stake
For all their silly little sins- not unlike those that I've made
Guess ashes to ashes- that's the way things go
Hey- rock n' roll- I face the music 'cause it's all that I know

Now if you write a girl a song it might mean your love is true
But if you write a hundred more you just like singing the blues
So cynicism save me- I need somewhere to run
Because I'm to afraid to face all of the things I've become
And as I bury my pride beneath the dirt on the ground
I can't help behind a wall of things I've thought out
To the tune of everything fading as my mind drifts away
Just like a black and white photo turns the rainbow to grey

And I turn myself into somebody else
Because I'm feeling like I should've kept these things to myself
I call upon the lessons I was forced to learn
Way too young- I got the message but the book was burned
I've read about prophets that were burned at the stake
For all their silly little sins- not unlike those that I've made
Guess ashes to ashes- that's the way things go
Hey- rock n' roll- I face the music 'cause it's all that I know

And I turn myself into somebody else
Because I'm feeling like I should've kept these things to myself
I call upon the lessons I was forced to learn
Way too young- I got the message but the book was burned
I've read about prophets that were burned at the stake
For all their silly little sins- not unlike those that I've made
Guess ashes to ashes- that's the way things go
Hey- rock n' roll- I face the music 'cause it's all that I know
