Farewell To Gouyave

The sun that hid a week behind the clouds is smiling down on us today
As we stumble through this little fishing town, pockets empty as our brains
Tabs yet to pay, and every penny spent on food and drink and company
Now it's time to bid farewell to Gouyave and take our chances out at sea

So we will hoist our sails, oh boys, our days ashore are done with the morning tide
Let's see if any stars align

Well somebody packed tobacco and some matches, someone else packed fishing rods
We all swore we'd only eat what we could catch, and what a crock of shit that was
We put in with empty bottles, empty bellies, empty promises of making good
Just to find old Benjamin don't go as far as everybody always said he would
Now there's no fuel (we'll catch the wind)
And no more food (we'll eat the fins)
Bar tabs are due (what a week it's been)
We might be screwed

But we will hoist our sails, oh boys, our days ashore are done with the morning tide
And we will point these pale and worn out faces homeward, driving day and night
Let's see if any stars align

It occurs to me, twenty miles from shore on open sea
There might be lessons to be learned, but we
We never seem to be the best with short term memories

So we will hoist our sails, oh boys, our days ashore are done with the morning tide
And we will point these pale and worn out faces homeward, driving day and night
Let's see if any stars align
