Lack

Walking down a dark street
Through a story with an ending I don't know
Leaving behind all of my promises
With just a case in tow
Without a care at all
That all the old beat pathways wouldn't show
And nowhere I really need to go
After some lost time wandering
I began to feel the strain
Despite all I had shed
What I kept it still manage to pain
As I travelled on
I knew there would be nothing I could gain
and there's no reason to feign

As the air lifted my shoulders
And the wind lifted my feet
It felt so good to feel so good
That I had refused to retreat

It seemed that every man that I would meet
Never seemed as tired as me
Once I chose to remember

Despite all I had left behind
What I kept still managed to weigh
For lack of a better word
The emptiness had long chosen to stay
And I concede there's nothing as strong as yesterday

The day I met the ocean
Was the day I learned the road did end
Now everything was gone

Time and distance had a way
Of turning all my tragedies to jokes
And I'll admit
I was much too tired to want to be alone
So I turned and started home
