In the Ring

Third night in your room again
With the windows open
There's a photo up above your bed
The two of you were smiling

You pick a fight because you're hurting
I'll step in the ring and I won't talk
You see the line my eyes are rolling
And I'll push back even if it's wrong

Tiny seat in a crowded bar
Did they hear us laughing
All the x's on your calendar
Makes me wonder why we counted

It's nice to know that you're calling
Even when you want to write me off
The scene is still but I keep turning
Pages in the dark I memorized it all

Read the map, check the floor plan
There's drums in the corner
If things go bad, we can give it up
Start a band and get closer

It's moving soon the cards are folding
Hardly had time to build up all the walls
The puzzle pieces scattered hoping
We won't look too hard, we won't find them all

I pick a fight because I'm hurting
I'll step in the ring and I won't talk
You see the line my eyes are rolling
And I'll push back even if it's wrong
