Circumstancial Wallflower

All my friends from high school still hang out
And I'm not sure if they remember who I am (who I am)
I've been left to wonder if they really just outgrew me
Or if I outgrew them
But I guess since I got bigger and they stayed so small

I guess I did outgrow them after all
Friends will drift apart
I know, I've heard a thousand times
So I'll take my lunch into the bathroom stall
Someone who was once so loud and bright
Now just blends in with the wall

I guess I'll take your picture for you
Now that I'm not worthy to be seen in frame (seen in frame)
I am constantly reminded that the life I lived before has now expired with my name (with my name)
And I've learned that if I ever want to find myself, I'll have to give up everybody else
I've accepted that I cannot force the people that I love to stay with me when I'm not looking well
No one will be there to hold your hand when you're walking into hell

Circumstantial wallflower
Pressed against a corner
Since my body thwarts my right to be consumed
Duller by the hour
Fading in the background
Is much better than just wasting all the room

Every time you laugh behind my back
I swear I feel it deep into my core (in my core)
Do you think I haven't noticed the disgust within your eyes
That wasn't there before? (There before)
And I know that you think that I'm no longer worthy of respect
Though I've racked my brain as to the reason why
It's just another rule that I must simply learn I must accept
I will carry this weight with me 'til I die
There's no winning in this stupid race
So we're calling it a tie

Circumstantial wallflower
Pressed against a corner
Since my body thwarts my right to be consumed
Duller by the hour
Fading in the background is much better than just wasting all the room

If I went back in time (ahh)
I know that stupid little kid would spit in my face (ahh)
And ask me how we grew into this disgrace (ahh)
But I don't have an answer
I don't have an answer

Life is ever-changing so there isn't any use getting attached
It's true
There are millions upon millions of different paths
That branch from all the choices made by you (made by you)
So I'm guessing that somebody made some small mistake
When mankind had just begun its earthly rule
A slip that sparked something malevolent within our DNA (ahh)
Making it part of human nature to be cruel
No one will be there to hear the song
That was written by the fool

Circumstantial wallflower
Pressed against a corner
Since my body thwarts my right to be consumed
Duller by the hour (duller by the hour)
Fading in the background is much better than just wasting all the room
