Birds of a Feather

You laugh and talk when all is quiet
Despite being together
You give your all to make it right
Make us birds of a feather

The wise and crafty crow
A mighty gentle sight
Is prone to lying low despite his height

The quiet canary
All cozy in the nest
Not wanting to be seen, just lay and rest

And the blackbird bellows melodies
Oh so desperate for harmony
The cadenza though remains a solo song

I feel your straining when you try
To hold us all together
Your cause is lost, it's gone awry
We're no birds of a feather

The robin, high on fire
On a journey to the nil
Has but one desire: to get its loving fill

And the blackbird's song evolves to cries
When it begins to realize
That the union so much wished for
Wasn't meant to be at all

It breaks my heart when I observe
Your futile endeavour
Deep down we know despite your verve
We're no birds of a feather

And still we caw and sing and squeak
Beneath the ruthless weather
In time, we shall find our technique
And symphonize together
We surely will get better
Become birds of a feather
