Watcher over the Dead

Watcher over the dead

An ordinary sailor
A light in his hand
Undisturbed
He will stand
In waterboots
His legs wide spread
He always watches -
Over the dead

But for me
It seems to be
That he shines his light
For the sailor to see
To the sailor
Who dwelles at sea
Silently saying
Come back to me

Night and day -
Year after year
He will stand there -
Without any fear
He gaze at sea -
A seagull on his head
He always watches
Over the dead

His oilskin -
Prevents he gets wet
So he can stay -
Watches over the dead
In my dreams -
His light wil burn
For those who sailed out
To return

Yes for me
It seems to be
That he shines his light
For the sailor to see
To the sailors
Who dwells at sea
Silently saying
Come back to me
