That Door

Wish I would've known when I opened that door
Things would never go back to the way they were before
I walked right in to that place of mortal sin
Not knowing this was the beginning of the end
I put all of my money down
Carrying too many sorrows I had to drown
Don't know what I thought was behind that door
But it destroyed my life without remorse

When I opened that door it closed another
Never meant to hurt you or make you suffer
All I ever gave you were broken promises
All you ever gave me was complete forgiveness
Went in looking for a savior
I came out as a stranger
I thought I knew pain deep in my soul
Now every tear I hold in just burns another
Burns another hole

Wish I would've never opened that door
It left me many nights on the cold hard floor
A life we built together so quickly thrown aside
Was I too blind to see or was it just my foolish pride
You can't believe a word I said
When you're lying in an empty bed
I'll be alright you know I'll be there
Empty words when life don't fight fair

When I opened that door it closed another
Never meant to hurt you or make you suffer
All I ever gave you were broken promises
All you ever gave me was complete forgiveness
Went in looking for a savior
I came out as a stranger
I thought I knew pain deep in my soul
Now every tear I hold in just burns another
Burns another hole

Why did I ever open that door
Already had it all thought there was more
Was I hiding from my problems
Or running out of fear
I found out the hard way
You don't find answers here
I can't make you proud
If I'm never around
I died a long time ago but I ain't in the ground
Each day is a reminder of a dream I'll never get
our future is only now a shadow darkened with regret

When I opened that door it closed another
Never meant to hurt you or make you suffer
All I ever gave you were broken promises
All you ever gave me was complete forgiveness
Went in looking for a savior
I came out as a stranger
I thought I knew pain deep in my soul
Now every tear I hold in just burns another
Burns another hole
