Declaration 2020

When in the course of human events
The signs are clear, it's evident
Social progress, a problem it presents
For scores who'd sever, circumvent

The march to form a union more perfect
Call for outcome predilect
Embittered, blind toward a president
Who's pulled us back to edge of precipice

Too few perceive danger is genuine
Fate is tied, land and denizens
Reflexive, fragile, fuel fear of melanin
Presume, preserve, prefer, pride the false pretense of

Insecurity, lever sanctity
No balance liberty, horde democracy
Eroding rule of law, so demonstrably
With callous disregard for humanity

Can we bring energy to fight for a just society?
On what side of history
Do you think we ought to be?
Pray god Apollo strums
For times like these, they make us numb
But you know we can't succumb
Justice for all, not just for some

Some maintain the power predominant
Fate is tied, to such detriment
Reflexive fragile, fuel fear of estrogen
Presume, preserve, prefer, pride the false pretense of

Insecurity, so petulant
Misogyny perennial impediment
But acts of young, the brave spur consciousness
Raise a mirror on past and present tense

Just how much energy to bring out a just society?
Before that side of history
Will there be a final plea?
Despite Apollo's stums
In times likes these, well I feel numb
Temptation to just succumb
Justice for all, not just for some

Some in the course of recent events
Know all truths aren't self-evident
When lies on lies on lies take precedence
Awaiting pained what wisdom Aeschylus decreed

And plead: be freed from false pretense
Must topple shameless monuments
To redeem this experiment
And from pain, we fashion a common sense
The acts of young, the brave must spur consciousness
And raise a mirror on past and present
Can we?
Oh, can we?

How much life? How much energy?

This is a declaration!
How clear must it be?
A just society, fate of our history
Oh hear this declaration
