Taxidermy

The universe scares me it's empty and vast
I watch beetles die in the moss and the grass
The future is cold and I cling to the past
Your lips on my neck, how long will they last?
No matter how slow, time is passing too fast

I can't take that time wants to take you away
I take what I find in the pasture and hay
I practice on weasels with shellac and clay
I tried salamanders and all sorts of stray
I promise my dear I won't let you decay

I wipe off the tears and clean off the rime
With feathers of peacocks and a bundle of thyme
With needles and wax I can fix up your smile
Please, please smile for another while

When you feel it coming oh darling don't cry
I bathe you in moth scales and you learn to fly
When you shiver I wrap you in coats of ermine
I keep you together with cotton and wire
I break off the clockhands everything will be fine

The vultures won't get you I stuffed them with stones
Mongooses and eagles watch over your throne
I forged it with antlers and elephant bone
Adorned with ivory and bezoar stones
With your eyes glued open I am never alone

I wipe off the tears and clean off the rime
With feathers of peacocks and a bundle of thyme
With needles and wax I can fix up your smile
Please, please smile for another while
