Golden Faces

Walk in a straight line
Believe it's your time
All curled up with a book to read
But you can't just jump ahead
All locked up living in between
The beginning and the end

If there were some kind of sign
That things were falling apart for a reason
I guess it wouldn't be so hard
So you grab at a lot of things
Looking for an answer
But every belief that you keep leaks
Dripping more questions

Are the structures we make
Designed to hold up each other
Or are they put there in place
To make us wonder of others?
Is there a rhyme or reason
To all the golden faces
That stare on as we make our mistakes?
I'd like to think they know better
Not everything that happens
Is some detour that will lead to the grave

(I want a way to know my way)

And in the end we don't know
What kind of places we'll go
I hope that we don't divide
And just take up space in the cold
I hope the stars up above
Remind you of someone you love
That way I can hold on to hope
That we don't leave on our own

Don't want to leave on my own
I guess I'll leave on my own
