Martyr

My God, why have You forsaken me?
Why are You so far from all my groaning?
I cry out by day and night
Yet You are holy

My strength is dried up and my tongue is clung to my jaws
In You our fathers trusted
They trusted and You rescued them

Yet not I
I am a worm not man
A disgrace to mankind, despised by the people
All who see me deride me and sneer
And yet You've said to me:

"Blessed is he, persecuted here for Me
For theirs is the Kingdom of God
And great is your reward in Heaven."

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed
Perplexed, but not driven to despair
Persecuted, but not forsaken
Struck down, but not destroyed
Father forgive them for they know not what they do!
Show them the light of Christ just as You did for me!

For the sake of Christ, then, I am content
Even with this weakness and persecution
For when I am weak, then I am strong
Through You

For we who live are always being given over to death for Christ's sake
So that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
So death is at work in us, but life in you!

For now I will be a martyr for Christ
A disgrace to mankind, despised by the people
But You love me and will see me through
Because You said to me:

"Blessed is he, persecuted here for Me
For theirs is the Kingdom of God
And great is your reward in Heaven."

"Blessed is he, persecuted here for Me
For theirs is the Kingdom of God
And great is your reward in Heaven."

So blessed am I, inheriting eternal life
Declaring that the Kingdom has come
And from this wretched corpse set free!

Because You died for me, I'll die for You
Because You died for me, I'll die for You
Because You died for me, I'll die for You

Lord Jesus, receive my spirit

Because You died for me, I'll die for You
Because You died for me, I'll die for You
Because You died for me, I'll die for You
