Alaska

I bought a new pair of shoes today
Even though I shouldn't spend
Mary didn't care for the color
But I was comfortable in them

When I got home, I took a couple of beers to the bath
She was sitting in the dark in the bedroom, and I didn't want to deal with that

It could be an aversion to the change in pressure
I was never good with handling doom
But it's fine, I still feel like I'm 25
What a time to be pretending to be alive

She came and sat on the edge, and said the interview went well
They're going to offer me that job in Fairbanks, where they've been losing personnel
I said, isn't that great
We keep saying that we wanted to know
how people sleep when it's light at midnight
And she said she didn't want me to go

I guess I really should have seen this coming down the line
The same mistakes I'm making time after time
So I'll say I still feel like I'm 35
I'll make it to Alaska sometime before I die

Sometime before I die
Sometime before I die
Sometime before I die
