New Years Resolutions

January first is a comin'
And my friends have all been askin'
'Bout my New Year's resolutions
And how long they will be a lastin'
Every year I swear that I will follow my new intentions
But this year will be different
It's high time for some reflection

Life's too dang short
To deprive myself the right
To live life to the fullest

Last year I said I'd lose some weight
Lay off the snacks and stuff
I made it through 'bout thirty days
It was really, really tough
But when that dessert tray passed my table
It really caught my eye
I couldn't stand it any more
Give me that piece of pie

A few years back I said I'd hit the gym
To work on my physique
Use the machines and pump that iron
Until I hit my peak
But after just a couple days
My body was so dang sore
I threw in the towel and for tubes of pain-cream
Drove to the store

And quit the bar room scene
Give up the late night escapades

After just two months my lady said
She'd had it with my plans
Living like a monk, she said
Wasn't what she wants from a man
Now she's giving me a second chance
To pass that up I'd be a tool
We're headed to the country bar
And I'll be line dancin' like a fool
