The Mermaid's Wait

She lay in the sand on a distant shore
Her hair the colour of red
She asked the sun, she asked the sky
Am I living or am I dead
I am from far, I am from near
The world has gone all dark
I see no stars, I have such fear
No birds are singing here

I never wished for a sky so grey
The ocean is what I need
I never wished for a beach so cold
Or a sun that won't see me
The ocean is my only home
It's the place I long to be
All I want is to find a way
To the stars I need to see

She called to the waves, they rolled to the coast
No one would carry her home
She called to the sun, but it would not play
It sunk into the sea
The Mermaid cried a silent plea
Tell the waves to stay
The sea then built a ship of waves
And made them head her way
