Bad Breaks

Lately I've had this dream
Riding down the road
Barreling, careening, about to explode
And I'm
Pumping the brakes
Car keeps rolling going
Going out of control
Until it careens off the road
And I land
Inside a lake
Bad brakes
Keep me from doing what I should
Bad brakes

Flying over a mountain
110 degrees
Crashing through a graveyard
Desecrating every tomb I see
Can't help myself
Bad brakes
Can shame a family
Bad breaks
The price of freedom's steep

Once I knew a woman
Long time ago
She was sweet to me
And so I took off
All her clothes
Never hesitate
Still I'm circling her
Tossed and blown by winds
Always out of reach
Damned by a sin that we cannot
Consumate

Bad brakes
Keep me from being who I should
Bad brakes
Bad brakes

Got an old Subaru
Sitting in the garage
Took her out
Fixed her up
And I
Replaced those brakes
If you see me on the road
Driving all alone
Listening to the same old CDs
Well
Don't think twice
Just think
"He's had a few bad breaks."
