London From a Rat's PoV

I wake up to the smell of morning
Pavements covered in fag ends still smouldering
and bin bags full of chicken wings
My belly's bouncing off the walls
Like a psychokiller from "The Fields Of War"
Gotta get my drowsy legs together
And hit the road for an hour

And off I sneak down the stairs
To the pipes network below the roads
To the rodent town below the surface
Under the ground where I belong

A familiar creaking arises
Colloquial speech made of scratches
And then a sudden breeze
A gush of rats shoots outta the pipe
I oughta jump in when time is ripe
Followed by hundreds of my type

I shall get off at once and find
the strength to leave the pipe
And face the light
And fight for life until the night

And off I sneak up the stairs
From the pipes network below the roads
To the primate town above the surface
Over the ground amongst the crowd

And off I sneak down the stairs
To the pipes network below the roads
To the rodent town below the surface
Under the ground where I belong

And off I sneak up the stairs
From the pipes network below the roads
To the primate town above the surface
Over the ground amongst the crowd
