The King's Throat

Moonlight spills through the door
Wind through the mountains howls a mournful call
Over barren land, toppled cairns
Bone-dry rivers

You sleep alone
Wrapped in a warm fleece on a hearth stone
A pillow of seeds, a tablet of bone
A wreath of clover

Key in the corner
Key in the dust
Hidden beneath
A green velvet cloth

Green as the moss
Green is the endless
Knot at the center

Of the maze
Full of leaves
You found your way
Slipped like a shadow
Beneath a thousand walls

Under gardens
Under trees
Through passageways
Into the cellar
Beneath the palace halls

Remember the riddle:
You are the knife
That cuts clean through the shadow

Wake now my child
Wake my dear one
And follow the path of the west climbing sun
To the hinterlands where new life is spun from the
shards of mirrors

Plant the seeds along the way
Beneath the fortress towers
In the burned out ruins where children play
Plant the seeds of wild flowers

Guard the key
Sharpen the knife
Drink from the springs
Under the roots
Beneath the course of time

One for the arrow
One for the stone
The one for the many
Who carries the blade
In the dark spaces alone

Let it come
Let it come raining down

Let it come
Let it come raining down

Let it come
Let it come
Let it come raining down

Let it come
Let it come
Let it come raining down

Remember the riddle:
You are the knife
