Couple Hundred "Love You's"

A girl sits in her window
Crying in time with the rain
Holding all the letters that he wrote
She tries to swallow through the pain

A couple hundred "Love you's"
Countless more "Can't wait to see you soon."'s
All these words of love now lost with what to do
She'll look okay outside but her heart is black and blue

A man's slumped on the street side
Far younger than he looks
His days spent watching families pass him by
Mock him of paths he wished he took

Been a while since he's heard "I love you."
Longer still since he's told anyone one it too
There was once a man who offered up his heart
But he feared how he felt and pushed them both apart

A husband fidgets quietly
Soon to be a dad
It's hours and hours waiting for good news
It's less bittersweet, more sad

He tells him "Son, I love you."
And squeezes him as tightly as he dares
He'll tell him all the stories of his mum
The way she laughed, the way she cried, and gave her life for theirs
