Pokemon Fire Red
When I was ten, I played Pokemon Fire Red on my DS
And before I started a battle, I would always save the game
So if I lost the battle, I could just turn off my DS
And turn it back on to the place that I had saved the game
I felt abandoned by the world, so I abandoned everyone I love
And moved two thousand miles away for a clearer view of the stars
And I keep writing songs about how I'll never go back to Ohio
But all my friends are in Ohio
I don't understand how other people don't constantly stop to mourn
The dozens of other little lives they've lived
And they probably don't think of me anymore
But I can still remember all their birthdays
And the smells of their houses
And I've never known company to last longer than six months
So when I let you in, I leave a part hidden away behind the wall
So at six o'clock when you close the door thinking you've seen everything
I can come running out to say
Hey! There is something more you missed
My friends drove two thousand miles in November to deliver my favorite plant
And I hope I can fucking remember to water it
I wish life had a rewind button
But it doesn't
And I know someday I'm gonna miss this also
So I better keep on living it out while I can
And you are maybe my most favorite person I've ever met
And if you couldn't already tell, I've met lots of people I still love
So maybe one day we'll drive to Ohio so you can meet them
And they can meet this version of me and the person I will still love
And before I started a battle, I would always save the game
So if I lost the battle, I could just turn off my DS
And turn it back on to the place that I had saved the game
I felt abandoned by the world, so I abandoned everyone I love
And moved two thousand miles away for a clearer view of the stars
And I keep writing songs about how I'll never go back to Ohio
