Disillusion

When I was a schoolboy teacher told me, you can be anything you want son
Study hard and someday you'll be quite a useful contribution
Despite an academic mind, I somehow struggled to compete
And as I slowly fell behind the truth was laid before me

Disillusion, I was deceived
Fed a lie and I bought it
Blinded by the promising dreams
But I shouldn't be surprised
Retribution will be achieved
But I must fight for it
Time to find alternative means
And pull the blindfold from my eyes

Now as I got older my father told me, if I didn't have the grades
I could join the military; be a hero on parade
But as they shipped me off to war, to go and die with other men
It's the same lies as before and I've been taken in again

Disillusion, I was deceived
Fed a lie and I bought it
Blinded by the promising dreams
But I shouldn't be surprised
Retribution will be achieved
But I must fight for it
Time to find alternative means
And pull the blindfold from my eyes

I've been the victim of a fateful crime
No matter what they said, I couldn't get ahead
I was encouraged to just waste my time
When opportunity was right in front of me

I'll climb the ladder of my own free will
Until I am free
Marching my way on up a long steep hill
Till I can find my, my destiny
