High School Friends

I pulled into my old spot
Right beside the football field
And it looks the same, it hasn't changed
Even though it's been ten years
And I'm sitting here, self-conscious about the tag still on my dress
And I hope that they can't tell that I've got whiskey on my breath
Yeah, I hate that I ain't everything they thought that I would be
"Most likely to succeed" is still hanging over me

I'll walk in, they'll ask me how I've been
I ain't seen them since God knows when
They've all got husbands, all got babies
And I can barely pay my rent
I'm living the dream as far as they know
But they're naive to how this goes
So I'll do what I do best and put on a damn good show
Just for tonight, I might lie, so I can be that girl again
'Cause I was really something to my high school friends

Yeah, they placed the bets that two years in I'd be a household name
So I'll send 'em off to college, while I chase that Nashville dream
And I'm chasin' it, but I'm waitressin'
And they don't get the game
So I'll make 'em proud and tell 'em how
I'm on the edge of fame

Yeah, I'll walk in, they'll ask me how I've been
I ain't seen them since God knows when
They've all got husbands, all got babies
And I can barely pay my rent
I'm living the dream as far as they know
But they're naive to how this goes
So I'll do what I do best, and put on a damn good show
Just for tonight, I might lie, so I can be that girl again
'Cause I was really something to my high school friends

(Ooh, ooh-ooh)
(Ooh, ooh-ooh)

Yeah, I hate that I ain't everything they thought that I would be
But just give me ten more years
I bet I'll be somebody

And I'll walk in, they'll ask me how I've been
I ain't seen them since God knows when
They've all got husbands, all got babies
I can barely pay my rent
I'm living the dream as far as they know
But they're naive to how this goes
So I'll do what I do best and put on a damn good show
Just for tonight I might lie, so I can be that girl again

'Cause I was really something
Yeah, I was really something
To my high school friends
