Devil

I made a deal with the devil
He told me that he could make my troubles
Disappear like vapors in the sun

The one thing that he required
Was my soul's red burning fire
Willingly I played into his hand

I watched my worries fade away
I felt a new wind on my face
And I came alive
That was the moment I died

I traded my whole existence
For rocks and pebbles pretending
That they were a batch of precious stones

Now I'm hitched up to this wagon
And I hear Lucifer laughing
All of this feels like an awful joke

My weary mind it turns and turns
Reciting every song and verse
Of who I've become
My life feels over and done

How long will I have to live with
These old dreams and failed ambitions?
I feel like Sisyphus on the hill

Maybe I'm being dramatic
Too focused on the old adage
That says "He who hesitates is lost"

I need help to steal away
And hide out underneath God's grace
With patience and faith
I just can't open my eyes
