The Rider

It's the dust
It fills my lungs and dries my eyes
So tears have a hard time rolling down my proud but nervous face
As I watch him ride to claim his place in history that's rich in fame
Richer in glory, heartbreak, and pain

I grip my own hand as he grips the rope
We're both white knuckled
I pray and I hope he rides like a superhero
A dream he could die for
He is fearless, courageous, a true athlete is the rider
