The Cabman
His carriage comes clacking up our street
Cabman Gray and his white horse
They have yet to be beat
But we have some remorse
For calling on him at his home
He followed the street singer
As she walked alone
The shadow of his top hat on the wall
Was probably the last thing that she saw
Cabman struck a blow
And laid the singer low
Put her in a bag
Thinking only of the price tag
The man has got to go
Cause he knows enough
To bury us both
Maybe he'll dig us up as well
And sell us to the next one
Oh god what have we done
The little girl's mother asked
That we heal her wee lass
I assure you the matter was solemn
The prognosis was rough
And I cannot stress enough
How much we needed a spinal column
To finish the good doctors work
But doc's assistant
Knew our crime and sought out Cabman
For blackmail
Cabman poured his drink
And killed him in a blink
Put him in a sack
And warned the doctor of the blowback,
If he made him go
Then he'd know the headlines the next morning
They'd bury him in the press until
The constable came calling
The very thing we've been forestalling
Oh, what can be done about a body snatcher?
The doctor's hands are tied, he is a man of stature
He lets himself into Gray's home to handle the matter
The shadows on the wall betray who had the last laughter
Doctor struck a blow
And laid the Cabman low
Donned his old top hat
Disposed of his old friend just like that
But old habits die hard
Now he's back to digging plots in churchyards
The carriage ride home derailed
The doctor's mind has come undone
Old Gray's had his last bit of fun!
Cabman Gray and his white horse
They have yet to be beat
But we have some remorse
For calling on him at his home
He followed the street singer
As she walked alone
The shadow of his top hat on the wall
Was probably the last thing that she saw
