Saint Marie

Deranged by drink and the darkness

Mangled by frost on icy nights

Drenched by rain high in the rigging

We all saw visions and turned white

Naked and sick burnt by the sun which
In winter we wished back again
In scorching fever stench and hunger
Those who survived sang this refrain:

Stare on o sky of streaming blue
Do wind the worst that you can do
To hell with sky and wind if we
Control the seas round Saint Marie

Tide of crimson flash of green
St Elmo's Fire o what we've seen
If we reach dry land safe and well
What a tale we'll have to tell

But fickle winds they drive the sails
Siren breezes brutal gales
Compass rose knows where we're blown
and the waves will take their own

In shallow waters caught unawares
Beat to quarters say your prayers
Dragging sand and broken shell
Men to your stations merry hell

Stare on o sky of streaming blue
Do wind the worst that you can do
To hell with sky and wind if we
Control the seas round Saint Marie
