The Road Less Travelled

I took the road less travelled
Like everybody else
And I kept to my own counsel
Til I was sick of myself
Believed everything in the Bible
Ended up on the cross
Went to start another cycle
And all the wheels came off

I worked for the police department
She worked for the fire brigade
We lived in a small apartment
And with the money we both made
Had a holiday in the summer
With our friends and their two kids
And we tried to love each other
And for a little while we did

And I remember when my mother
Said when I left home
If you take care of your brother
You will never be alone
But now they're both departed
And I am on my own
You leave the broken-hearted
Behind you when you go

And it's all been getting hazy
The life I used to know
The taxi's out there waiting
But I don't wanna go
There are stars on every channel
Drinking to my health
So I'll take the road less travelled
Like everybody else
