Memories Won't Stay

The days keep going by
Since my life was rearranged
I saw myself through truth
I knew I had to make a change
I fell down on my knees
And cried out through my shame
Didn't know if He would hear
Or if He cared to know my name
I felt a hand resting on my shoulder
I looked but no one else was there
I wasn't scared like you might've figured
The peace was all that I could bear

It's just another sleepless night
I feel the weight of all my choices
I try to say I was misguided
But now I've turned it all around
I still fight this ache for the hundredth time
That is vying for attention
I try to keep the old man buried
But the memories won't stay underneath the ground

There was a sense that I was loved
Like nothing I had encountered
I didn't know quite how to keep it
But I would do what I had to do
Ever since then I've been trying to live
A life that makes Him happy
I can't say that I do it perfect
But He never expects me to

It's just another sleepless night
I feel the weight of all my choices
I try to say I was misguided
But now I've turned it all around
I still fight this ache for the hundredth time
That is vying for attention
I try to keep the old man buried
But the memories won't stay underneath the ground

Time will pass, life goes on
But you'll never reach the point where you'll be disowned

It's just another sleepless night
I feel the weight of all my choices
I try to say I was misguided
But now I've turned it all around
I still fight this ache for the thousandth time
That is vying for attention
I try to keep the old man buried
But the memories won't stay underneath the ground
