Abyss

Far to the desert land from the sea of red I rode on
A dream of Abdul Alhazred
A city hidden in the sand
Its past unknown to man
As I pass the gates accursed after sunset
Feeling cold
Is it the moon or the fear I hold?
Curiosity overpowers fear
Still the arab tales unsettle me

Now I venture inside
Leaving behind the world that I knew
For days I seek remains to document this place
This silent residue
Nothing to be found but an eerie sound
Howling from the valley leading down
Like a wind it gushes through me
Speaking words of madness

That is not dead which can eternal lie
And with strange aeons even death may die

Away from the dying sun
Into the temple ruins I walk
Descending down

A reservoir of darkness black
As witch's cauldrons are when fill'd
With moondrugs in the eclipse distill'd
Leaning to look if foot might pass
Down thro' that chasm I saw beneath
As far as vision could explore, the jetty sides smooth as glass
Looking as if just varnish'd o'er
And with that dark pitch
The sea of death throws out upon its slimy shore

The walls display dead, horrid beings
Alien, reptile... with words I can't compare
Time ceases to exist in this gulf of inner earth
What awaits me further down I do not know, I must go on

The Grand Abyss opens wide
Insanity claims my mind

The Grand Abyss devours me
The Unknown world takes me in

So it was true, as the tale told
Spoken by many, seen by the few
They drag me to the deep
Where the old one sleeps
To be taken by the fog it breathes
As I descend into madness
I have reached my journey's end
Have I reached my journey's end?

Silently I fade away
Into the depths of insanity
