Pepaw's Bible

On my bedside table, right where I lay my head
Sits my Pepaw's Bible, the one he always read
I remember waking up before the sun would rise
Seeing Pepaw on his knees, the Bible by his side

The cover is tattered and torn, its King James pages are weathered and worn
All I need to know is in those pages
All I need to know, he left behind

As I turn those pages, I'm amazed at what I find
I read about the man who raised the dead and healed the blind
I read about the garden where on his knees he prayed
Despite his power and love, that night he was betrayed

His body was tattered and torn, his head was bleeding, pressed down by the thorns
All I need to know is in those pages
All I need to know, he left behind

They took his body down, they laid him in the grave
Darkness shrouded the earth, the veil was torn away
Just when hope was gone, in three days he would rise
My Pepaw and his Bible told me he is alive

The cover is tattered and torn, its pages tell me through Christ I'm reborn
All I need to know is in those pages
All I need to know, they left behind
All I need to know is in those tattered pages
All I need to know, Pepaw and Jesus left behind
