Lemme see your rubrics!
Well I admit, I'm ambitious and idealistic, it's my disposition
But if you give your permission, I'll submit my proposition
If you feel ready to commit yourself to flipping the system so that
The kids are benefiting, pay attention and listen
So let's start at the beginning, it takes a shift in your vision
Redefinition of the grades we give to be a description
Of if the kids are proficient, evidence based is the difference
It isn't fitting that education should be competition
It's sad but commonly this idiotic pedagogy's
Seen as being obvious, no other option there for us
But thoughtfully examining the processes
It doesn't take a prodigy to see it's not good policy
Though honestly, flawless reform's impossible
The popular solution's philosophically suboptimal
I wanna pique your curiosity about the
Quality this novelty could bring for our progeny
We've got to relearn how we teach
It's an art but not pastiche
We've got to relearn how we teach
And practice what we preach
We've got to relearn how we teach
Or else how're these kids gonna be reached?
We've got to relearn how we teach
And practice what we preach
When I was a beginner I said that I'm finna
Just listen to winners like Wiggins and Schimmer
Wormeli, Marzano, Tom Guskey, O'Connor
Burkhart and McTighe just to name a few honors
They're vets and they get it, cause we can do better
Than percentage and letters as ways that we measure
And construe what students can do in our schools
Sad but true we view new ideas as bugaboos
They can show what they know alongside how they've grown
In a portfolio, status quo's gotta go
Cause the product and process and conduct and progress
Are more than symbolic indexes and proxies
Thrown into a blender, and now I don't wonder
Why they hunger for summer
(It's our obligation to fix education!)
We've got to relearn how we teach
It's an art but not pastiche
We've got to relearn how we teach
And practice what we preach
We've got to relearn how we teach
