New Chord
I heard the forest sing a new chord
A little lower in its old age
I need to get to where the roots hurt
So the branches can feel okay
I started thinking up a new word
To capture something unnamed
But every syllable was too short
To say much of anything
I found some writing on a cave wall
That can't help but disappoint
Some bad directions to a lost cause
I hope someday I can join
I found the daughter of an old world
It felt right, she had no name
She tried to show me how the mill works
To turn things until they change
Now I don't wanna make a wrong turn
Get lost in the ending day
With my belongings on the hillside
I couldn't afford the weight
And there's a pilgrimage I dreamed up
A shrine for laying every coin down
I thought that maybe I should round up
'Cause I'm still trying to keep the weight down
A little lower in its old age
I need to get to where the roots hurt
So the branches can feel okay
I started thinking up a new word
To capture something unnamed
But every syllable was too short
To say much of anything
I found some writing on a cave wall
That can't help but disappoint
Some bad directions to a lost cause
I hope someday I can join
I found the daughter of an old world
It felt right, she had no name
She tried to show me how the mill works
To turn things until they change
Now I don't wanna make a wrong turn
Get lost in the ending day
With my belongings on the hillside
I couldn't afford the weight
And there's a pilgrimage I dreamed up
A shrine for laying every coin down
I thought that maybe I should round up
'Cause I'm still trying to keep the weight down
