On Life & Living
You come into existence in North Carolina
Through no fault of your own, onto California
Where you make your first memory
Form a concept of family
Finally recognize the person that is me
Now it's off to Virginia to get an education
From a private school paid for by the Christians
Learning reading and writing
Multiplying dividing
What creates tensions and what's unifying
Now I shuffle back and forth to finish adolescence
I'll discover girls and desire their presence
My texts go unanswered
Confidence turns to cancer
Nobody yet welcomes my advances
Warm becomes cold in the winters of Rhode Island
Where I ended up, and tempers become violent
I choose higher learning
While my anger is burning
Gotta get out of New England with no plans of returning
It's so easy to blame the people who turned me away
I just wanted to make out and listen to Sunday
Thought it'd be romantic
Evil from Antics
And 24 hours up and down the Atlantic
And all the while I've got my guitar
Trying to elevate my music into some form of art
I was put on this Earth
To prove my worth
I will earn every ounce of respect I deserve
And all the while people try to play with my heart
Making me a one man band playing both of those parts
Leading me on and on
And on and on
Until every shred of dignity I once had is gone
Because my call to greatness is never going to stop
And when I reach that mystical, magnificent mountain top
I will say to every girl that ever turned me down
"You'd be filled with regret if you could see me now"
And in a couple years I hope to look back and say
I made the most I could out of each and every day
Wasted no time
Made the world mine
And thrusted myself into the spotlight
And it's nothing but a choice that was made for me
I was given no input or chance to disagree
Brings me here tonight
Under the dim lights
But I wouldn't be here if I didn't know it was right
Through no fault of your own, onto California
Where you make your first memory
Form a concept of family
Finally recognize the person that is me
Now it's off to Virginia to get an education
