Grow Into Me

I made a time machine
To fix the mess I made
Instead of changing what I did
I just changed what it meant

Back when I didn't know
Back when I hadn't seen
I thought that I had lost it all
And I deserved regret

I sat there looking at myself
I saw a kid who tried to be
I told myself that it gets better, and then you grow into me

I sat beside myself
And told me I was good
And that I'd make some more mistakes
And I would feel the pain

I sat there looking at myself
I saw a kid who tried to be
I told myself that it gets better, you grow into me

I told myself that all
The broken things I had
Could one day be repaired and healed
And I would laugh again

I shook my hand and turned
Got back in my machine
I left me feeling something different,
Something new to see

I sat there looking at myself
I saw a kid who tried to be
I told myself that it gets better, you grow into me

And as I watched that kid grow up
I saw the path led him to me
I knew that he would be OK and someday he'd grow into me
