Revenge Prawn

The letter arrived in the morning
He had left only six weeks ago
The messenger gave her the king's regret
That her husband was lost off the deck he'd been tossed

But the maid who had lost him said "Never!
I'll search the salt seas 'til he's found"
Sold her house, bought a boat, and cast out on to float
On the currents to prove that he could not have drowned on the sea

Over oceans a many she tumbled
Manning sheets and the rudder alone
To keep herself safe she practiced the blade
Learned to fire a gun and to steal and run

And for seven more years she continued
On a vessel she christened The Prawn
When at last she caught word from a story she heard
Of a frigate that sank off the coast of Caribbean sea

She roams the waves
To be free, him she must save
Years sailing the foam
Only in his arms she'll be home

Gripped tight in her hands his location
Scrawled on a map rolled up tight
Why had he never returned to her side?
Had he lost his mind? Into slavery been signed?

But at last she caught sight of a cabin
Built upon palms in the sand
She kicked open the door and she let out a roar
For her husband laid bare with another maid fair by the sea

She roams the waves
To be free, him she must save
Years sailing the foam
Only in his arms she'll be home

"Eight long years have I wasted
How could I not have known?
My life's been a lie, but at least you'll die
Grown fond of being alone"

She shot him there in his bedsheets
Watched as the light left his eyes
Put a scar on the face of his lover
And set off into the tide

Ne'er again did she bother
With spirits from her past
With her mind and conscience clear
To the wind her fate she cast

Life as a thief and a cutthroat
Never felt so right
Free to live as she pleases
A smile sails into night

She roams the waves
All Alone but she'll be brave
Years sailing the foam
Finally sees that she is home
