Walk My Shadow

I know why the caged bird sings
For whomst the bell tolls and rings
These secret, clandestine things
Scattered ashes, upturned pockets

Shedded world-snakeskin boots kick up dust
And all these crows are cawing
My shadow takes me for a walk, stretches long, points out somethin'
Though the day is dark and dreary I've never seen things so clearly

To sleep perchance to dream
A silver-lined perspective snagging Styx's souls upstream
An end to which no means or so it seems

Meet me at this point of the hourglass
Two souls mirrored but our breath fogs up the glass
Knew from due diligence nothing is good or bad

Yet wishful thinking makes a penny lucky
Dispense rainy day wisdom for the shadow's quick study
Upstart magician untethered in ether
Sputtering lighthouse storms for worse and forever
Lucky cat fortune glamours each folly, parade, and endeavor
But it's fine! We'll weather whatever
Me and my shadow together

Fate threads twine through the eye of a needle
That skips a beat in the groove the moment you notice

Fate is all one string
The mortal veil is a knit
