The Weight of Impermanence

This hazy lens
Through which I gaze blankly
A joyous picture fails to bury bitter truths
The smiling, the laughing, the loving interactions
Positioned bleakly under the weight
Life's only truth
My father's eyes
Happy, yet fading slow
The feet of crows
Harbingers
Of looming eternity
Are all that I can think of now

Veiled by a lens
Of soot and sackcloth
Chokes
The light from the day that's dawning
I know
That this way is killing me slowly
Impermanence looms like fog
Tainting every hour

Expected implications
Serve to furrow agony
There's a notion, misery
Suspends in the face of glee
Where is this
Who feels this
Joy that eclipses grief
For laughing voices turn to screams
In the mind weighed down
By mortality
There is no
There is no rest for me

Where comes reprieve in living
When the light is so closely strained
My gaze is bleak, yet fastened oh so tightly
Death comes slow
