A Thousand Goodbyes

Last night in the crowd I thought I caught a glimpse of your face
And it felt strange admitting how much I would like it that way
So I shrugged off the feeling and turned my head away
I turned my head away

And I go back and forth on the way I feel we shared our time
Were we really lovers or did we feel merely obliged?
I believe one farewell is better than a thousand goodbyes
And I'll leave before I change my mind
I'll leave before I change my mind
I'll leave before I change my mind

Time is not a friend to those with regret
And what hurts the most is the things left unsaid
It rips me to pieces what I held inside
If only I let it all out
Were we wasting time
Or searching for something we just didn't find
We didn't find ourselves
Now our love is dead on the ground
Lost and not trying to be found
It's surely over now

Sometimes I look back and see ways I was blind at the time
A hindsight reminder of how we've got on with our lives
Along with this letter is a piece of my life
And just one more goodbye
