Withdraw

Long time of digging deeper
To reach the trove below
Last drop of my exertion
I need to get back home
Sunset within the hour
My hands are to the bone
Just then a storm starts pouring
The mud pervades my hole
I see two paths before me
One stay the other go
Spent hours with my shovel
My second chance unknown
Decide once that I've foreseen
My greed would be atoned
I must forget what can't be
My future has yet shown

Sometimes our goals in life will just fall through
To continue to try would be futile
Our loss in the sunk costs is what ensues
We must be able to pry before they subdue
One day I may wake up with my work due
It's nearly done but I trip and lose a front tooth
Fixate on work that I've done with face black and blue
Or drop it and move on to what is vital

Sometimes we feel the urge to push
Beyond what we know that is safe
Step back and see that in a rush
Increase the odds to make mistakes
When we invest our days and weeks
Then realize a better way
A quicker path to reach our dreams
We can't go back, but better late

Deep debt from playing machines
Hit red so long ago
I feel my pockets empty
It's time to hit the road
Inside my mind is yearning
For an ATM reload
Yet still afraid of losing
I could escape this hole
Withdrawn, the money's taken
Short walk to where I'll play
My confidence then caves in
There's much too much at stake
Some things just aren't worth risking
Like family, friends and home
I'd much prefer the sure thing
Hard work to make it grow

Sometimes our goals in life will just fall through
To continue to try would be futile
Our loss in the sunk costs is what ensues
We must be able to pry before they subdue
One day I may wake up with my work due
It's nearly done but I trip and lose a front tooth
Fixate on work that I've done with face black and blue
Or drop it and move on to what is vital
