The Secret to Living

When I was a kid I got punched in the face
Got moved around: a new school, a new place.
I was not into fighting but the fight came to me
And I wondered what the use of living could be.

So I asked my mom if it gets better some day
Her eyes teared up and I heard Momma say:
"There's a reason for living that I'm thinking of,
And that secret, one day, you'll find out is..."

My girlfriend asked me if I'd marry her soon
She kissed me and loved me by the light of the moon.
We'd raise some children, have a home of our own
And never again we'd be hurt or alone.

So I asked the preacher if this is the way.
With a look of experience the preacher would say
"There's a reason for marriage that I'm thinking of,
And that reason, one day, you'll find out is..."

Life is a mystery we don't understand
Maybe we're part of a masterful plan.
We look for some guidance from heaven above
While that secret to living is...

I've seen some rough times and some good times too.
Every day seems to bring something new.
On the long road behind me I left no regrets
And the best things in life might even come yet!

When people ask me why I'm happy each day,
I smile just a little and softly I say
"There's a secret to living that I'm thinking of,
And that secret, one day, you'll find out is..."
You'll find out is...
You'll find out is...
You'll find out is...
You'll find out is...
